Coming Home: Alexis’ Journey to Homeownership

Oct 23, 2026 | Blog, Homeowner Spotlight

For Alexis, Wilson Drive holds more than childhood memories. It’s a place filled with familiarity, belonging and a dream she once wasn’t sure would become a reality.

Growing up near Wilson Drive, Alexis always hoped that one day she could return to the neighborhood she once called home. Now, through Dorchester Habitat for Humanity’s homeownership program, that dream is becoming a reality for her and her daughter.

“I always wanted to come back home. I just never knew how,” Alexis shared.

Building More Than a Home

Alexis’ journey to homeownership has been one of dedication, determination and hard work.

Through Dorchester Habitat’s homeownership program, she has completed more than 430 sweat-equity hours, helping build and rehabilitate not only her future home but the homes of other Habitat families as well.

In addition to her sweat-equity hours, Alexis has participated in financial education courses provided by First Capital Bank, gaining valuable tools and knowledge to help her achieve long-term financial stability and successful homeownership.

Her commitment reflects what Habitat homeownership is all about: working alongside families to build strength, stability and self-reliance through affordable homeownership.

A New Chapter, Right Where It All Began

With a newly renovated kitchen, updated bedrooms, and a place to finally call her own, Alexis is preparing to create new memories with her little girl in the neighborhood where she grew up.

On Friday, October 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., Dorchester Habitat for Humanity will celebrate this exciting milestone with a home dedication ceremony at 299 Wilson Drive.

For Alexis and her daughter, this home represents more than four walls and a roof. It represents stability, opportunity and the chance to build a future together.

And perhaps the most meaningful part of it all? Alexis gets to begin this new chapter right where her story began.
