What if our community could come together to raise enough money to cover nearly the entire construction cost of a Habitat home?
Thanks to the generosity of Dr. Bob and Mrs. Sammye Blackard, we have an opportunity to do just that.
The Blackards have challenged Dorchester Habitat for Humanity and our community to raise $150,000 by December 31, 2026. If we reach that goal, they will contribute an additional $50,000, bringing our total to $200,000 in support of affordable homeownership in Dorchester County.
Your Generosity Can Help Build the Next Home
Imagine what $200,000 could mean for a local family.
That amount would cover nearly the entire construction cost of a Habitat home. A home where children can grow, memories can be made and a family can begin building a stronger financial future.
Through Dorchester Habitat’s homeownership program, qualifying families partner with us by completing sweat-equity hours, participating in financial education and preparing for the responsibilities of affordable homeownership.
With the support of our community, we can continue creating these opportunities for more families throughout Dorchester County.
Behind Every Application Is a Family With a Dream
The need for affordable homeownership in Dorchester County continues to grow.
In just one month, Dorchester Habitat received more than 200 applications for our homeownership program.
Behind every application is a story. A parent dreaming of providing a stable home for their children. A family working toward financial independence. Someone hoping to achieve the American Dream of owning a place to call their own.
These are our neighbors, and their dreams deserve a chance to become reality.
The Challenge Is On. Will You Answer the Call?
The clock is ticking, and December 31, 2026, is our deadline.
Every donation, no matter the size, brings us closer to reaching our $150,000 goal and unlocking the Blackards’ additional $50,000 contribution.
Whether you’re an individual, a local business or a community organization, you have an opportunity to be part of something that will make a lasting difference.
Here’s how you can help:
- Make a donation. Every dollar brings us closer to our goal.
- Spread the word. Share the Blackards’ Challenge with friends, family and coworkers.
- Encourage others to give. Invite your workplace, church or community group to join the effort.
The Blackards have given our community an incredible opportunity. Now, it’s up to all of us to rise to the challenge. Give today.
