Dorchester Habitat for Humanity Breaks Ground on Its 80th Home in Summerville

Oct 31, 2025 | Homeownership

Dorchester Habitat for Humanity is celebrating a significant milestone: the groundbreaking of its 80th home in Summerville. The ceremony will take place on Tuesday, November 4th, at 10 a.m. at 463 Renau Boulevard, and the public is invited to attend and join in this special moment of community progress.

Building Dreams on Dean Drive

This project represents continued momentum in the organization’s Building Dreams on Dean Drive initiative. While a sewer line reconfiguration delayed early construction, the site is now ready for development thanks to the collaboration and support of Dorchester County, RH Moore Company, and National Trench Safety.

“These partnerships made it possible to overcome major site development challenges and keep our mission on track,” said Jaye Jones Elliott, Executive Director of Dorchester Habitat for Humanity.

Two Homes, One Mission

In an exciting advancement, two Habitat homes will be built simultaneously, reflecting the organization’s growing impact and efficiency. The groundbreaking event will include remarks from Dorchester County Councilman David Chinnis, representatives from RH Moore, and members of Dorchester Habitat for Humanity.

“Together, we’re building homes, hope, and community,” Jones Elliott shared. “And thanks to a generous $1-for-$1 match from Dr. Robert and Mrs. Sammye Blackard, every donation will go twice as far in helping families achieve affordable homeownership.”
