Dorchester Habitat welcomes its newest Homeowner, Bluetta Barnett!
Bluetta Barnett, a single mom of six and long-time employee of the Dorchester Board of Disabilities and Special Needs, has always dreamed of owning her own home.
While her older children are on their own, her daughters - Cayenne & Deja - are still living at home while they continue their education. Bluetta and her girls are currently living in a small two-bedroom apartment in a neighborhood that has it's share of questionable activity.
They recently experienced an attempted break-in while Bluetta and one of her daughters were in the apartment. Fortunately, they were unharmed, but the fear still lingers. Bluetta's fear is even greater as she leaves each night to go to work while her daughters are at home. And the broken sliding glass door has yet to be repaired by the landlord.
"This is a dream come true, and we are so blessed," said Bluetta through tears of joy when told she had been selected as the next Habitat homeowner. Bluetta is a hard-working mom, and has demonstrated her willingness to do all that she can to finally be a homeowner. She and her girls are extremely excited about the opportunity and blessings provided by Habitat. Bluetta will receive the next home located in Corey Woods and scheduled to be completed in April.
